Zulu club - Jo'burg

If you talk to a man in a language he understands,

that goes to his head.

If you talk to him in his language,

that goes to his heart.”

Nelson Mandela.

Children learn best when they are enjoying themselves, therefore the emphasis of our time together is having fun learning Zulu.

We sing Zulu songs, play games in Zulu, and learn basic vocabulary. Our goal is for Caroline, our Zulu teacher who has five years’ experience teaching at the playschool “Hluma”, to speak to the children exclusively in Zulu for the duration of the sessions. As children progress in their understanding, we will also be telling stories and reading simple books in Zulu.

We meet one afternoon a week for an hour. Our current group is full (our maximum is 12 children) but we will be starting a second group in Parktown North in January 2009. The club caters for children from ages 3 to 6. Please do contact me if you’re interested, so that I can add your name to my list.
